History of the High Priestess Card
While the High Priestess card represents divinity, its history is rife with controversy. In some circles, she's viewed as a female pope (the card was originally entitled "The Popess"). Since that doesn't coincide with the reality of Catholicism, however, she may be better viewed as a religious leader who doesn't follow the dogmatic teachings of any church.
