August Virgo vs. September Virgo: The Difference

While Virgos born in August and September have some pretty major similarities, there are some differences to consider when trying to interpret planets in this sign. In astrology, degrees determine how a planet in a sign expresses itself—a planet in the early degrees of a sign will have a slightly different expression than planets in the mid or late degrees.

Types of Virgo

Decans divide every one of the twelve zodiac signs into three ten-degree sectors. Every decan is ruled by a planet, and, when a planet occupies a decan, it takes on the qualities of that decan’s ruler. Planets in Virgo from 0–9 degrees are in the sun’s decan, from 10–19 degrees are in Venus’ decan and planets from 20–29 degrees are in Mercury’s decan.

1st Decan Virgo

Planets within the first 0–9 degrees of Virgo are in the sun’s decan, meaning that the planets here will take on more solar characteristics. While planets in this decan don’t necessarily cancel out the detail-oriented, communicative qualities of Virgo, the sun becomes this planet’s co-ruler, adding a sense of energy, confidence, and vibrance. If you have planets within these degrees, you can expect these planets to have a far more expressive quality.

2nd Decan Virgo

Planets in the second subdivision of Virgo take on a Venusian quality, meaning that the productivity-oriented qualities of the planet in this decan will also prioritize unity, connection, and balance. Planets in this decan will also be more inclined to prioritize love and relationships and will be less inclined to become involved in conflict or discourse.

3rd Decan Virgo

The third decan of Virgo is ruled by Mercury. Because this is the planet that already rules Virgo, planets in the third and final decan of Virgo will take on an incredibly strong Mercurial quality. Here, planets will be even more interested in details, communication, logic, and productivity. Planets here will prioritize productivity and the ability to solve problems in a level-headed manner. If you have planets in the final decan of Virgo, you can expect your natural Virgo tendencies to be strengthened.

August Virgos

Virgos born in August are far more likely to have planets in Leo in their birth charts, given Leo was the previous zodiac season. This adds a more outgoing, confident and expressive side to these individuals.

Traits

  • Authoritative
  • Confident
  • Leaders

Personality

Because Virgos born during August tend to have some fire in their charts, they are typically far more outgoing. The confidence paired with the detail-oriented nature of this sign tends to pair well—especially as Virgos are oftentimes more behind-the-scenes kinds of people. The Leo placements push them out of their shell and allow them to embrace attention and acknowledgment easier.

September Virgos

Virgos born during the month of September tend to have more Libra in their birth charts because they’re born closer to the start of that season. This brings a more Venusian, partnership-oriented quality out of them.

Traits

  • Creative
  • Diplomatic
  • Mediator

Personality

If you’re a Virgo born during September, you’re likely far more social and friendly. With the possibility of having air placements, you’re even more of a communicator, and you have a pleasant, Venusian way of communicating with others. The Libra placements also mean that you’re more likely to prioritize your romantic relationships and partnerships, making you far more romantic.

“Virgos are highly intellectual people who spend most of their time with their heads in the clouds,” says Narayana Montúfar, astrologer and author of Moon Signs: Unlock Your Inner Luminary Power. “They are incredibly intelligent, sometimes to a fault. Virgos are masters at facts and all things communication, as well as any type of analysis and organization. They tend to be very clean and put together, and need to have control of their environment to be able to work at their best and feel at peace.”

FAQs

Are Virgos hard-working?

“Yes—most Virgos are hard-working due to their sign’s ruling element, which is earth,” Narayana says. “In astrology, this element relates to the accumulation of wealth, so even if they are low-key about it, Virgos are masters at generating it. Virgo is also ruled by Mercury, the planet of intellect, thought process, and numbers. Mercury gives Virgos incredible agility with numbers and facts, making them valuable players in their respective teams. This agility will sometimes, however, make them overwork themselves, as their abilities are always needed.”

Are Virgos mean?

“Virgos are not mean,” Narayana says. “They tend to see life through an intellectual lens, which sometimes can make them appear cold. This is especially true when it comes to emotions and relationships. In a work environment, for example, they strive for perfection and won’t rest until they reach it. This can sometimes be annoying to those who don’t have the same standards as them.”

Virgos are very logical people, so even if it’s a bit harsh, they tend to say what’s on their mind—especially if they feel like it’ll help. Virgos are acts of service kinds of people, and because of this, they can come off a bit nitpicky. While they mean well, they aim for perfection, and this is also the standard to which they hold their loved ones. They want to see the people they care about thrive, which usually means they might have to hit you with some tough love every now and then.
