What were they thinking?! These Academy Award red carpet mishaps can be explained by the stars' stars.
Taking a stroll down the red carpet is daunting enough. But some actresses seem to totally lose their way, especially when deciding what to wear. We review the most shocking outfits and try to explain why they committed such fashion don'ts.
Björk
Who can forget the white feathery faux swan dress of 2001, complete with a head and orange bill? It certainly got her plenty of publicity. Björk was born in 1965 and has Uranus conjunct Pluto in Virgo, so she can be forgiven for having a sense of style that is both outrageous and experimental. She also has a Scorpio Ascendant and her Sun conjunct Neptune, again in Scorpio. She is an artist - her life is her art and this includes the clothes she wears and the way she expresses herself. Her style is sheer poetry, but in this instance it didn't rhyme. She also has her Moon in Scorpio, so she loves to make a dramatic entrance. She certainly managed that!
Celine Dion
Journey back to 1999 and Celine Dion's flashy white, tuxedo. It was fabulous - but why oh why did she have to wear the jacket backwards? Celine has a Leo Ascendant, so she thrives on attention - she adores an audience and loves having everyone look at her. But with her Sun and Saturn in Aries on either side of her Midheaven, she is prone to making gaffes, and being remembered for them. Her Moon in Aries means she can be very unsubtle. What she thinks looks stunning may look awkward and plain embarrassing to those with a more discerning eye. She also has Uranus conjunct Pluto in Virgo - another one who loves to experiment at just the wrong time!
Cher
A flash back to the 1980s Oscars where Cher is the undisputed queen of weirdness in multiple awards ceremonies. On one occasion she wore what amounted to a black body-length chiffon scarf that only just covered 'those' body parts. Then there was that scary black gothic dress with a distinct alien retro influence. Cher has a Cancer Ascendant with Saturn in her first house. She also has Mars conjunct Pluto in Leo in the second. Her motto surely is, 'If you've got it flaunt it.' Females with a Cancer Ascendant often have great breasts, something she is aware of and loves to show off to her advantage. With her Sun in Taurus she is a true sensualist!
Diane Keaton
Remember the 2004 Oscars when Diane strode down the red carpet wearing pinstripe trousers, a black jacket, spotted black and white tie, a bowler hat and a very disturbing pair of gloves? Well, you do now. She looked liked a London city gent minus the umbrella and briefcase. Diane has both Mars and Saturn retrograde in Cancer in her Eighth House. This combination of energies may encourage her to learn about gender issues. We know she is all women, but sometimes she wants to let her inner man out to play. This was one such occasion. Having Uranus in Gemini in her Seventh House is another interesting combination, which means she finds transgender issues fascinating. Dressing 'male' may be one way she explores this for herself.
Geena Davis
It was known as the Can-Can't dress, and was worn by Geena for the 1992 Oscars. The Hi-Low, satin white look just didn't go with her lanky legs in black tights and her pale of palest skin. Neptune is conjunct her Scorpio Ascendant which means she absorbs ideas - whether classy or not, from the ether. When she planned to wear that outfit she must have been channeling a demented, virginal French Maid. Those with Neptune in this position need an adviser with dress sense - someone who can gently guide them along the road to discerning good taste and quality clothing. With her Sun in Aquarius and Uranus conjunct her Midheaven, what do you expect?
Gwyneth Paltrow
Another fashion faux pas was Gwyneth's 2002 Oscar dress, which was quite frankly atrocious. A horrid black and white number, with a see through top and no bra. A supporting device would surely have improved the situation a little. Gwyneth, for all her poise and beauty, looked like someone who had just walked out of a Glastonbury hippy camp. Great in-situ. But not on the red carpet! Gwyneth has a stellium of planets in Libra in her Eighth House, including her Sun conjunct Pluto. She loves to sizzle and she usually does. With Mercury in indecisive Libra she may have spent hours deciding whether to bother with a bra or not. But as Mercury is conjunct Uranus she opted for the liberated look - sadly!
