Can astrology make sense of these stars' shocking mistakes?

2009 has been quite a year for celebrity scandals, so let's take a deeper look at some of the best of the worst of them from an astrological perspective.

Tiger Woods' Affairs
A look at Tiger's chart reveals just how accurate astrology is at forecasting impending doom and PR disaster. All appeared fine and dandy in the Woods household until the car crash which set alarm bells ringing throughout the media world. Speculation became rife that Tiger was playing out of bounds and all hell broke loose.

Tiger's Virgo Ascendant and Capricorn Sun suggests that Tiger worked hard at maintaining a squeaky clean image. However, dig a little deeper into his chart and it becomes clear that he is not quite as innocent he seems. He has natal Mars in Gemini in the Ninth House in opposition to Neptune in Sagittarius, trine Pluto in Libra and sextile Jupiter in Pisces. This blend of energies speaks volumes! It suggests that he has trouble with commitment, that he is quite a flirt, loves female company, and also has a very powerful sex drive.

Let's do a comparison here on a scale of one to ten. If David Letterman - next on this list of scandals - is at seven, then Tiger is at ten. More recently, transiting Saturn has moved over Tiger's Ascendant while Uranus has opposed Saturn, his Ascendant, and conjuncted the cusp of his Seventh House. This means that the carefully manicured façade was doomed to crack. And so it has - most spectacularly.

David Letterman's Extortion Scandal
David Letterman announced to shocked viewers on October 1, 2009, that he had been the victim of a blackmail attempt. He admitted that the alleged extortionist, Robert Halderman, planned to reveal that Letterman had had sex with a number of his female employees, unless he paid him $2 million. On his show, the recently married Letterman admitted his claims were true.

Letterman has his Sun and Mars in Aries, so he has strong sexual desires. During 2009, transiting Uranus conjuncted his natal Mercury in Pisces and around the same time trined Jupiter in Scorpio. This is a three-part transit that has scandal written all over it. Transiting Saturn was also in opposition to his natal Mercury, again another three-part transit. Mercury, the planet of communication, gossip, revelation, intrigue and, in Pisces, deception as well, was under huge pressure.

It really is not surprising that the truth came out in such a bizarre fashion, but it is also typical of an Aries to lay the cards on the table and come clean. Having a practical Moon in Capricorn would also enable him to be realistic about his situation. Uranus conjuncts Mercury one more time in late February 2010, so this issue may erupt once again.

Chris Brown Assaults Rihanna
The news of Chris Brown's alleged assault of former girlfriend Rihanna became headline news shortly after the Grammy Awards ceremony in February 2009. Chris's mother stated in a pre-recorded interview on Larry King Live in September 2009 that she has never known him to be a violent person. However, his childhood was no picnic and though this does not condone his actions, it certainly has had a bearing on them.

Chris is a double Taurus with his Sun and Moon in this sign and both opposed to Pluto in Scorpio. His natal Mars in Cancer conjuncts Chiron and trines Pluto. This reveals that he has wounds related to his childhood, and his feelings run deep - very deep. Though he may not admit it to himself, his hurt has turned to anger which could be triggered at any time by even the most trivial of incidents. Transiting Pluto has been edging closer to his natal Uranus in Capricorn, which coincided with his violent outburst.

Rihanna has a Sun in Pisces with Mars, Saturn, and Uranus conjunct in her chart, and Jupiter in Aries in trine to Mars. Transiting Pluto has been moving over her Saturn/Uranus conjunction which is another explosive blend of influences. Whatever happened between them, buttons were pushed with disastrous consequences.

Miley Cyrus' Pole Dance
Miley's chart is a blend of intense passion and studied aloofness. She works the two together, creating a charming and alluring image. So what was she thinking when she put on a risqué performance of "Party in the USA" at the Teen Choice Awards on August 10, 2009?

Miley is a Sagittarian, so can easily forget to be tactful, and will say and do as she pleases without thinking she is offending anyone. There is no doubt that she has wicked sense of humor and an approach to love and relationships that is provocative and yet detached. She is the perfect tease. She has Venus in Capricorn conjunct Uranus and Neptune, so while she is busy searching for the perfect relationship, she also enjoys her own space. She needs a lot of space, in fact, as she likes to experiment with various styles and ways of expressing herself.

At the time in question, she had transiting Jupiter in square to her natal Pluto in Scorpio. She intended to make a statement and to get as much publicity as she could, and she certainly achieved that! However, transiting Uranus has been in a trine with her natal Pluto which has the effect of awakening and liberating her sexuality. This is a three-part transit that runs into 2010. There may be more scandal to come!
